building up a 5.3
#1
so my tahoe is coming up on 160K on the stock motor. it still runs perfect but i am looking to build new 5.3 to replace it when the time comes. with the gas prices the way they are i am straying from the idea of throwing in a 6.0. i was wondering what you guys would start with, a normal 5.3 with a mild cam and better heads or pay the extra for the HO and work from there. i'm really looking to build a powerful little street/strip motor that gets pretty good economy, but not so strong that i hafta get an 80E to make it long term reliable. it will be mated to an FLT lvl. 5 BTW. any suggestions on heads, cams, maybe a slight overbore, compression. it is going to be like 95% highway miles and at the strip fairly regularly (2-3 nights a month). any input helps.

sorry, i wasnt sure if you were trying to say that a 6.0 can get good mileage. i shoulda figured on 5.3 based on the cam size but i've been up since 4 so i'm not firing on all cylinders here.

how much overbore is that .030?
what about compression, if i run 93 octane, what kind of compression can i safely run? will there be much difference if i use the aluminum block 5.3 HO?
