Default Long Tubes on a heavy ECSB

A fairly reputable shop in San Antonio told my cousin not to replace his shorty headers with some long tubes. That it is a big difference in light vehicles but not on a ECSB truck. The shop told him that the little power he is going to gain up top he is gonna lose more down low I thought it was more of a difference than that.

He then tried convincing him to keep the shortys and spend the money on a cam swap

Can someone elaborate on the header deal?

A cam swap would cost more labor $$ so of course they are gonna want him to go that route. And a cam would cost you power down low too

That is what I thought too! What about the headers though? I have always thought that the long tubes were better all around.

Yeah... anything having to do with better air flow is going to help out with EVERYTHING... they were bullshitting.. either they couldnt get any long tubes.. or didnt feel like making them fit the y-pipe... or they have a shitty welder.. lol whatever the case.. long tubes wont LOSE you power.

Long tubes will PICK UP power everywhere.

A cam swap might be more noticeable though.

They should've talked him into a long tube header AND cam swap.

maybe the shop was just trying to get him to make the decision that would make the most power = make him the most happy. a good cam is that choice.

If the shop is caught up in the old school SBC way of thinking I'll bet they were keying on the fact that the shorty headers are 1 5/8 primaries and long tubes are all 1 3/4. A lot of places don't know the details of the LS1 that we all take for granted now.

I had a shop tell me they wouldn't install LT's cause it'd burn up my computer. What a crock of $#!T.
