Default Broke a tap in the head.

So I win boner of the month. I over torqued a header bolt and messed up one of the threads inside the head. I went to put a new heli coil inside the hole but while using the tap i snapped the **** in half. Dont know how just did. Probably not enough lube, so either way, I have another set of stock heads and wondering if it is ok to just replace the one side? What do you guys think?

as long as both heads are the same it's fine.
You could probably even get away with missing just 1 bolt

If you are careful, you can drill through the broken tap with a carbide drill bit.
you may damage the threads a bit while working on it, but the helicoil won't care.

Honestly, it may take you an hour of careful work, but it saves the head.

yep they sure do i have one, and works well, also if you dont wanna buy a tap use a very small pointed punch, i would do this with the head off, and try and loosen the broken tap, by tapping it cc. drilling a tap out is a bitch, i wouldnt even attemp it, you'll end up ruining the head more then likely

You cannot drill out a tap. However you can take a small punch and break pieces of the tap off until you get it all out. Patience is a virtue with this procedure, but it can be done with success.

I offered my advice based on experience.
I have drilled taps with carbide drill bits before. It works.

get a carbide punch and smack it fairly hard, if that doesnt work get a carbide 1/4 inch endmill and a high speed drill and little by little it will break away leaving the threads fine and dandy if your careful.

I've used a tap extractor like Grumpy5.3 said, and a I've broke them to pieces. If you don't have a extractor breakingit in pieces is the easiest way. those taps are so hard they shatter pretty easy....
