Default Brake light switch problem

I've had this issue ever since I've owned the truck. If I push down the brake pedal, the brake light switch will click and the brake lights will turn on. Then when I lift the pedal slightly, maybe 1/4-1/2", the brake light switch will click off but the brake will still be engaged. Is this normal?

It's annoying because I'll be braking up to a light, then when I'm stopped I'll let off the brake slightly, then the brake lights will turn off but there's enough braking power to keep me from moving, begging to get rear ended by some grandma.

There is a spring inside the switch housing. It's all made out of plastic so its likely that there is some damage or the spring is out of place. Best bet is to probably buy a new switch.
