Default Blower Cam recommendation from Comp...

Called Comp Cams today (they said turnaround time on their faxed-in requests was as much as a week - got tired of waiting) and gave them my application. They said that with a Radix and a cat-back, that their 54-412-11 was a good choice.

Specs are 212/218, 522/529, 114* and 2* ground-in advance. A more aggressive cam would be their 54-424-11 with 212/218, 558/563, 115* and 0* ground-in advance, which they said would be a good match if I wanted to get some ported heads as well.

Question - if was going cam and springs only, would the 54-412-11 be the best choice? Or could I also go with the 54-424-11 without new heads? They only mentioned their 26918-16 springs, but some people talk about rods as well.

Go with the second cam if you buy an off the shelf cam. The 918 springs will be fine. Hardened pushrods (7.4") are a good upgrade for you as well.

Tex - I'll be okay with the second one with the Radix? What will I notice with the second one over the first?

I may be reading into your post, but it seems like you think a custom grind might work. If so, do you have any ideas?

I plan on going bigger with mine when the time comes. I have a 216/220 on it now and it screams!

Yea, go with the second one. I have the first one, and although it's not tuned, it's on a 4.8. That second choice should work great with that Radix. You may have more tunning issues with it, but it would wake it up. Either way, your going to notice the gain farther up in the RPM's than where you do now. Are you going with a custom tune on this, or not. If you don't plan on tunning, then I would used the first and upgrade later. That first choice is always a good reseller.

Fun Guy - slimsoftball just put that cam in his SS. Ask him what he thinks about it. Never did hear if he lost any boost, or not. I'd go with the bigger of the two. I used the first one you mentioned for a while, but just found myself wanting a little more.

I'm running the 02 LS-6 cam in my 5.3L burb, but I just got a LQ4 6.0 and I'm going to run either the 212/218 .553/.563 comp cam or the Lingenfelter GT-2 cam which is shorter duration 207/220 @ .050" but has lift #'s of .573/.580 w/117.5 LSA.
