OK, those expecting to find it in HERE, sorry. I am looking to find out who has built the biggest 5.3 out there, and what size.

I know, I know, I know, "just build a 6.0". Well, I figure everyone is building 6.0's and seems no one is building 5.3's, so.....


I know the 5.3 is limited on the bore, but you can cram in a big nasty crank to make up for the cubes, so who has built the biggest 5.3, and what size?

Oh yeah, this is NOT a thread on, "well, you will have the valves shrouded on such a small bore in the 5.3 block" Or, "why spend your $$$$ on a 5.3 when you can go with a 6.0".

Let me repeat, I DO NOT care about that, I am only interested in how big someone has built the 5.3 into. In other words, what is the biggest crank I can throw into the 5.3?

 

I think its been determined that the biggest you can go is like 382 or so... but I may be completely wrong... hopefully someone else can verify.

 

I think the largest safe crank to run on a stock block is like 4.100 or 4.125, something like that. And you'll probably never find off the shelf pistons for that stroke/bore combination. so extra$ is needed.. plus those length stroke cranks arent as common as a 4".

The best bet for power out of more cubes is a big bore. Not to mention the problems an overly large stroke can cause. But that's JMHO though.

Great info! Yeah, I know the bigger cranks are not as common and finding off the shelf pistons would be non existent, but not really worried about it. Have a few 5.3's lying around from a friend that owns a junkyard, and I come across the "mutt" stuff all the time for free. Thanks for the help guys. I figure a 4.125 will get enough cubes for me. The small bore will shroud up the valves some, but oh well, and since the motor will be wearing a turbo not very concerned on head flow anyway. And since it is under pressure, the air WILL get in there.

 

Once you increase the bore or the stroke, it's no longer a 5.3L - I think this is a trick question

The biggest 5.3 is a 5.3

 

thats what i thought when i read the title but he's just wanting to use the 4.8/5.3 block for a motor build

 

Wasnt there some issues with the 4.125 cranks hitting in places? I was thinking 01slowz71 had a few issues with his 4.1 as far as clearance but could be wrong. When you ask what is the longest stroke you can use do you mean use with no modifications or just what is the absolute longest stroke period even with modifying the block, windage tray, piston skirts etc?
