Is it better to go too long or too short on pushrods?

The reason I'm going 7.375 over 7.35 is that I don't want to have to mess with the top end again when the cam is put in. The 7.35s would be too short with the smaller base circle of an aftermarket cam.
So all aftermarket cams have a smaller base circle than stock on Ls base motors?I thought that there was just one cam from Comp. and you had to buy the longer push rods or shims!I'm running Comp Cam 222/228 581/588 112+2lsa
with hardened 7.4's.Are these too long?Been in my truck for 200 miles seems fine to run really good.
