Is it better to go too long or too short on pushrods?

From my search, aftermarket companies list 7.40" pushrods as "stock" because that is the length that corrects for the smaller base circle of an aftermarket cam so that you retain effective stock pushrod length.

if they are too long, the valves will not seat. if they are too short it will be noisy. when i had my 5.3 w/ tr220 and 243's milled .040 i used 7.4's. in my current 6.0 w/tr224 i am using 7.45's. and no i did not measure cause i am too lazy to go get the $20 tool.

Im going with the 3.735. If anyone needs new 7.4 hardened please let me know im selling for $100.
The reason I'm going 7.375 over 7.35 is that I don't want to have to mess with the top end again when the cam is put in. The 7.35s would be too short with the smaller base circle of an aftermarket cam.
