Moved to the GM engine and exhaust section for a better response.

I would try gears if you want to get the power down low. I have 3.23 in my truck, and a old neighbor I had had 4.11's. All else being equal he could get 3-4 truck lengths, and get the same MPG hwy. So I feel ripped.

I have done the intake, exhaust, and shorty headers becouse I live in Ca, but the improvements are being held up by the gears which I despartly need.

I just need to decide what rims I am going to run on my truck so I can get the right ones 4.11's 0r 4.56's becouse I either going to get 20's or 24's depending on my comuting situation here.

Get a stall converter somewhere in the 3000 range and you will see a huge bottom end difference. Don't foget the tranny cooler if you get a stall. Stall converters are one of the best mods you can do to one of these truck IMO>

a stall isn't going to boost your bottom end performance, per se. It just allows the engine to bypass those lower rpm's (where there is less performance) by flashing higher in the power band.

Your basic bolt-ons, including LT's, and a tune should give you decent bottom end performance. If you still aren't satisfied, like was mentioned previously, gears will aid acceleration akin to a stall by letting the engine rev up faster into the powerband. Beyond that, like PSM said, a baby cam like the xr259 by comp cams would be the ticket. 206/212 duration with a 112 LSA. It should really bump up the low end. It's the cam I'm considering for my wee 4.8.

The only problem with a converter is you have that elastic band effect when you drive normally.

For a low end torque cam, I would go really high lift (that's where you get your torque), maybe .560 or so, like a 212/218 (popular combo here), and a 114 or higher lobe separation to shift the powerband lower and keep the idle nice and smooth.
