Default Best way to 12's?

Wanting to go 12.99 or 'real' close in my truck and looking for the best way to go 'without' opening the bottem end or swapping engines. Couple of rules though.

Truck is drove on average 1k miles a week right now. Would like to keep the mileage up as much as possible, though I realize I'll probably take some hit here (geared 3.23, 3.73s are already on the agenda).

Power has to be there all the time, so no nitrous.

I have access to about 4k in cash right now, if I wait a week or two that'll be 6k.

Initially I thought I'd go STS intercooled, but that system seems a bit pricey when I see 12 second cam only trucks on here (I'd assume w convertors/gears, full exhaust).

Would a cam swap, heads, convertor and gears get me there? Still be drivable? I know the issues with the convertor swap already (drove a 3500 stall car daily for years) and I can live with that as long as the other mods don't cause alot of issues (plugs loading up, ect.)

I do have access to a dyno and my own copy of HPtuners and will be adding wideband soon.

Truck is an '05 RCSB 5.3L auto w posi.

What kind of Mileage can I expect with those changes, other than the gears, which are a given, will the cam/heads hurt the mileage? Possibly help?

i sure do not see a H/C helping your mpg but then again i don't think think you will loose a that much as long as you get a good tune
