Default Best cam for my truck? Your thoughts

I have a 04 ecsb silverado with a lq9/4l80 swap it has a built tranny and a 3k stall, 4:10 gears and headers. What would you guys suggest for a cam swap? Thanks

All depends what you're after.

What size (diameter) converter? How many miles per year? Plans for boost? How important is mpg? How high do you want your shift points? 4x4?

Taking a stab at it without all those details:
If it's a DD it looks something like this 218/224 114+3
If it's more of a toy it would look something like this 226/230 112+2

The fairly tight converter is why even the 'toy' cam isn't all that large. And with an 80e and that same converter as a DD you need a fairly mild idle and as much low end power as you can get. A cam is pretty much all personal preference. There is no perfect magic cam... But there is a perfect cam for what you want and how you drive.

It's 2wd.The converter is a precision 10" single disk. The motor has 100k on it. A cam is problly the last thing I'm gonna do. I drive this truck almost every day but it is a toy.. I'm not to worried about gas mileage b/c it already doesn't do to good with the 4:10's.. Yeah low end would seem to help it out and thanks for your input..

Something that will split that difference may be perfect then. I'll take a closer look tomorrow.

So you drive it every day, but you have a second car as well?

Ok thanks!! Well I have a 4 banger car to save on gas. But can't help it, so I drive the truck most of the time back and forth to work.. I have electric cut outs on the truck and it's to much fun!! Lol

If it was mine, I would honestly look at a higher rpm stall converter if you are after n/a performance.

226/230 LSA112 will do great in that build. You are doing all the right things to go aggressive on your cam. 4.10s, 3k stall, plenty of compression etc. however your stock heads won't like huge lift or duration. Much over 230 duration or .60x lift won't benefit you on stock heads.

I had to use a 114 LSA with my setup (404 from TSP) as the 111 LSA didn;t make enough vacuum for a street toy.

I have a 3400 stall and it is great but the higher stall likes higher RPM (i have 4:10 gears) to really start to pull.

This is pretty spot on.

We gotta keep the cam small to keep the power coming on early and hard.

226/230 113+3

2* of overlap to give you plenty of noticeable lope at idle, and its ever so slightly centered over the exhaust stroke. It should make plenty of bottom end power and pull to 6400 easy. Even this wouldn't mind more converter though...
