Here's my old 4.8L build (RCSB 2wd):

K&N FIPK
E-fans
EFI live tune
TCI 2800 stall
4.10's
True duals w/no cats
Transgo HD-2C
Billet trans servos
NX 125 wet shot nitrous

Ran mid 14's on motor, low 13's high 12's on juice. Swapped to a 408 and should run mid 11's now.

do basic bolt ons then, these GEN III motors respond very well to tuning and simple things. (headers, intakes, cams,) if you feel like even more, then spray it and have fun. I have ran a 150 wet shot on my cammed 5.3 for a while and have had no motor problems... drivetrain issues are a different story though LOL....

You can increase air flow for very little money. You can take the piece off of the air box that connects it with the fender. That piece snaps out of the air box. That will double the air inlet. You can also cut some holes in the lower section that points to the headlight. That will add some as well. I also removed the screen from my mass air sensor and I think that helped. You can also buy a K+N filter for the stock box to help a little.

You should already have electric fans on an 05. Also, you could put a true dual exhaust on it with an H or X pipe. I also criss cross my tail pipes so that my passenger bank of cylinders, exits from the drivers side and vice versa. The reason is because the Drivers bank of cylinders has to cut across to the passengers frame rail up front, so I am trying to equal out the length of pipe to increase and promote even balanced flow between both banks. The same principle as equal length headers.

That is what I have done and it helped, but it really needs a tune to get rid of the torque management.
