Bent Valves, Where to from Here?
First, a little background. Last summer my timing chain let go, consequently the valves were bent some. However, it was still drivable but definitely not as good as it was (which wasn't anything to really brag about... it's just good truck). I let it sit for several months, started it once in a while but never drove it. I've been driving it quite a bit in the last month or two, and it's been doing well. Only thing is the knocking sound, which can get annoying every so often.
1986 Silverado, has about 218,xxx miles on it. All original motor, 305. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how long I'll be able to run before anything happens? Also, would it be worth it to just replace the heads, save up for a new motor...? Thoughts welcome.

That's what I've been thinking. And that brings me to the question of whether or not it's better to replace the valves or just put new heads on? Personally, I'd like to replace the motor, but that's a bit out of the price range at the time.

For the amount of money a 350 seems a lot better than a 305, especially with the amount of stuff that can be done with a 350. And I have been on Craigslist here and there checking prices, for motors and transmissions. Right now, money is really the biggest obstacle at this point.
