Belt slip on P1sc--Need help
#1
Finally got the tranny back together and now I'm on to the next issue, belt slip.
A little back ground:
'04 GMC ECSB 2WD 5.3 4L65.
ATI P1sc 8-10lb (4" pulley) Intercooler mounted in "stock" horizontal position
Coated Dynatech headers/cats
Single 3" mandrel cat back
'05 E fans and radiator
42# injectors
Conservative tune through LS1edit
4" mandrel intake from compressor to original airbox location using ATI (K&N?) cone filter.
This setup made 387hp and 401tq with the converter locked(PI 2500) at 10 lbs. Back home in south florida (30 degrees hotter), it made 365hp 375tq with the converter not locked at 10 lbs.
It ran like this for about 2000 miles than it started to show less boost on the guage. I put a shorter belt on it and got the boost back for a few times I had my foot in it, then back to 5-6 lbs. Put a tight Gatorback belt on and got the boost back for a few times. Replaced the tensioner and had the same results. I now have a little over 5000 miles on the procharger setup. The belt dust is quite evident on the compressor as well as the easily visible acessory/ideler pulleys.
I have spoken to Procharger many times and had several explanations. Today I was told to use a Gates belt. I wanted to buy the largest ideler that would fit to get the most belt wrap. I was told they rarely slip and possibly my waterpump is leaking on the belt.??? The truck is at a friends shop so I haven't looked for any dexcool leak.
After reading another post, I looked into an 8-rib belt and spoke to Bob at EPP. He as well as a couple of other people have told me that I'm not running enough boost to warrant the 8-rib conversion.
I plan to run a Snow meth kit and a bit more "tune" after I get the belt issue solved.
It would be nice to get my 8-10 lbs back. Any help is appreciated.

try taking off the intake and going back to the big cone filter right off the 45 from the blower. i had the intake setup you had and its VERY restrictive. and doesnt warrant the lsightly lower iats....imho. try it if not just thorw it back on. but i would log both runs and i htnk youll be surprised on the lb/min of the big cone filter vs. the big intake

Procharger told me that one time also. But why did it run full boost for 2k and every time I changed a belt or the tensioner?
On the other hand, the 45 that came in the kit did not allow the cone to work, it hit the electric motor for the brake booster. Besides I didn't like the idea of hot air off the headers going into the compressor. They (procharger) still does not offer an '04 kit yet. Mine is from an '01-'03 and there were numerous "adjustments" made.

Is that tensioner the same as stock but with a stronger spring or a manual type? How much?
Tried the belt dressing earlier, didn't seem to help. We'll look into the alignment and possible coolant leak this afternoon.

I looked into getting one of those and was told that the other acessories would suffer longevity wise. What's the real scoop?

Looks like there is no alignment problem and no coolant leak. My buddy says I should probably go to an 8-rib. I'm thinking try an old school tensioner first. ( cost)
Texas Terminator- will that Katech tensioner bolt up to my 5.3 ? Why does GM put a spring tensioner on trucks and "old school" tensioners on the aluminium engines in cars? If I crank on the belt to stop the compressor slipping will bearing/shaft life be less on the acessories?
