Default Basic Bolt-on Questions

I am aiming at mileage, with whatever power gains I get in the meantime with the mods.

Can someone help me on a couple?

I already have Full 3" exhaust waiting to go on, and a CAI on the way. Also putting E-Fans in, and getting a mail-order tune. A supercharger is wanted way down the road, just for the extra MPGs. I dont have a problem of putting my foot in it. Its my daily.

Ive heard that rocker arms will help a little, but which ones do I need for my 5.3? 1.7, 1.8 or 1.85?

Also, what cam would be best for midrange torque, or just an overall increase.
Again, I have the 5.3, 4x4.
Thinking of a 2001-2003 Z06 cam, but I dont want anything too big...or expensive.

Anything else?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you want to get the best mileage, don't spend any money on mods unless its a tune.

Basically everything else will keep it the same, or make it worse, and you will only be putting money into the truck instead of into the gas tank.

Don't waste your money on rockers, the gains are minimal for the hefty pricetag. (factory ratio is 1.7 btw, and the aftermarket rockers are usually 1.8 or 1.85). Definitely get a good tune, that will help power all around and usually help mpg's also. My cam (in sig) is a nice improvement over stock throughout the powerband, and hasn't had a negative affect on my mileage that I can tell (I never really calculated it much). There's also the Comp 212/218 which used to be a popular cam for daily driven trucks. Vinci has some nice grinds also, I've driven tdrumm's truck with the Vinci 062 (210/218 .551/.551 112), and that cam is great in his 5.3, but he also has a 3k converter to compliment it (which won't help your mpg). Check them out at vincihiperformance.com.

Your a 2wd right?
15mpg on a good day, how??
i havent seen 15mpg in several months, mine stays around 18ish(80E too ). And my Speedo is calibrated with GPS.

Worst gas mileage ive ever seen was when we went to the track after the LQ4 swap. Towed a 89Camaro to the track, made 4 passes, loaded up my buddy's 96 Cobra and towed him home. cruising at 80-85mph, went through several towns with red lights, passing slow people and staying in boost at lower rpms for awhile and still got 11mpg. Its nice to pass people and never drop out of Overdrive

I like to keep my cutout open

With it closed I'm sure I could get better mileage, but when its closed I can hear all my exhaust leaks so it drives me crazy and I open it again.
