So it goes: axle tube to backing plate. Backing plate to caliper bracket - 4" distance on the bolts. Caliper bracket to caliper - ~6" distance on the bolts.
I just assumed that bracket was part of the disk setup, not something that might have been shared with the drums.
Let me try this again.

I saw two sets of bolts. One were ~4" apart and had larger head. Those hold the caliper bracket to the axle tube. The other ones that hold the caliper to the bracket were ~6.5" apart and had smaller heads.
It looks like the caliper brackets may be the same....

Awesome.
Yeah, that's what I was looking at - the bolts with the larger heads. Sounds to me like it's pretty do-able.
Let me know if you need me to pull a disk off or something. I've been meaning to take a look at my E-brakes back there.

I'm not... too... sure...
I can tell you that my rear's like to lock before my front's do. I guess it's a little safer like that and all, but I feel like I'm lacking a bit of power up front because of it.
I've thought about adjusting (if possible) the proportioning valve in the past. I remember having the thought, "This thing feels like it might work in a 'burban, but not this truck. It sucks that they didn't set it up right."
I can try to describe what my brake setup is like under the hood? I'm not sure if that'll do any good.
(I really need to come up to the late-90's and get myself a digital camera one of these days...)

if you want to see the setup from a twin-piston rear I can take some pics later and post them....I have the 12.8" rear rotors and the 12.9" front rotors (they ARE an 8 lug pattern but the calipers should be the same)
