Wow, this is an old post.
I've never had any trouble with the bolts using my 1/2" breaker bar with a 2-3' piece of pipe slipped over the end. It's easy that way from the top as long as you have electric fans where you can get to it easily from the top. I am waiting for the head of the breaker bar to explode one of these times though.

A long 1/2" breaker bar, and a key. All you will need for the bolt. 
Be sure and get the breaker bar tight against the frame rail BEFORE you bump the starter. All you do is BUMP the starter, don't turn it long enough to start the motor, just enough to break the bolt loose.
