Default ASM installation question

hey everyone,

I am thinking about purchasing some ASM's for my wife's tahoe and read that there was some welding required during the installation. Where does this take place? I was thinking about going with TOG's but they are more of a midlength header and i was wanting a long tube header.

Also, i am thinking about just purchasing some pipe and clamps from summit or jegs and custom fabricating a TD exhaust to exit out before the rear tires. Do you think this would be a good idea. Only problem is, is that my wife doent want it to be to loud inside the vehicle. My old truck had glasspacks and she could deal with that, yet now the sound will go more directly into the cabin (being that it is underneath it). Oh yeah, I will be getting the exhaust welded together after i get everything fitted how i want it.

So, I am thinking about using cats and possibly 2 borla XR1 mufflers (or maybe some turbo mufflers, but i think fitment will be a problem). I havent decided on an H or X pipe yet either. I am going to crawl underneath it tomorrow and get a better idea of what can and cant be done though. Do you think this will be very loud.

Thanks for the feedback

You have to cut the exhaust about an inch in front of the cats and weld the flanges to the exhaust pipes. I had an exhaust shop weld mine. They charged 25 bucks.

With AS&M Headers you cut the pipes a 1/4" infront of the cats and fit the cats to the flanges and weld them together. I recomend using the cats and Magnaflow muffler so its quiet enough for the Wife.

great, thanks for the info everyone.

Oh, when you say magnaflows, do you mean magnaflow mufflers on a TD exhaust or do you mean the magnaflow catback (If so, what did you use for a y-pipe?)?

Thanks again everyone

When you cut in front of the cats..
cut a little long so you can grind them
down to a perfect fit
and make sure theres plenty of room
you dont want your exhaust banging
around on anything cause it will set off knock

I used Magnaflow muffler part#14568 dual 2 1/2 in dual 2 1/2 out. I had Mineke bend pipes all the way out back with Magnaflow 18 x 3 1/2" tips. And Couldnt be Happier.
