Chris, I don't think there is any way you could get a Dmax 1/2ton into the 30's mpg on a regular bases even with a 2wd rcsb striped with a LB7 (best mileage of all the Dmax engines) your still gonna be around 5k in weight and a brick in the air. Maybe mind 20's at best for a general average with a good tune and easy right foot. The motor is just too big. You need a diesel motor in the 4.5L area and a lighter trans, 6l80e would be nice. To bad GM trash canned this truck a few years ago...

I was reading in one of the threads linked above that another guy with a RCSB was getting around 28, which I guess is kind of close. No idea though if that was around town, on the highway, or downhill with a tailwind and the engine off.

On the other hand, I was thinking that something like this would be really expensive, but it's starting to sound like it wouldn't be too bad. Two donor trucks (a roll-over LBZ donor, and maybe a salvage title RCSB?), and I bet I could do something for cheap if I was patient. Although, knowing my history, I won't be patient and I'd end up paying too much

I think a 4wd would be a better way to go as well, easy to adjust the front end ride height (torsion bars) and better traction for launches Also to see how many front end parts I could break

4X4 isn't going to help your mileage...
