Default Anyone change cam bearings???

This build is taking alot longer than i like. It seems everytime I move forward somthing happens that pushes me back. Anyway, didnt really pay much attention at first, but just noticed my cam bearings are showing alot of wear. Lots of copper showing on the lower portion of the bearings. I have allready bought new ones. Just got to get me a cam bearing install tool. Anybody install cam bearings in one of these engines yet?? Just curious how much of a pita this will be. Looks like i am in the middle of one of the longest engine builds in history It sux not having much time to work on it.

I have put cam bearings in-more than once unfortunately. No different than any other motor. I would recommend Dura-Bond brand bearings-way more durable than the stockers. They are sometimes hard to find, but they do make em and they are better than stock. Sorry to hear your buildup is taking so long-I know the feeling-mine was basically down from November '03 til last week. I finally got pissed and just bought a new crate motor. Sure feels good to drive her again. Good luck and keep us all posted.

LEATER - didn't you post up about having thrust bearing issues on multiple motors? Did you ever figure out why those things happened?

I HAD mine done but was told they are really no different than most Chevy SB. Do the obvious and note the oil passage. It is on the "side" of the block compared to others that are on top. Other than that L-Eater is right use Dura-bond stuff as the stock LS1 bearings let loose at high RPM's on occasion.

Thanks for the comments guys. I allready bought stock cam bearings. I had called thunder racing and was told no one offered an aftermarket cam bearing for the lq4 6.0 liter yet But it seems they do, oh well
I found a new 6.0 long block on ebay, sure wish it was there before i spent so much money on this build Hopefully it will be worth it all in the end.

Bigtex-yes I was the one with thrust issues and no I never figured it out. I had been using the federal mogul bearings so this last motor I used GM mains but that motor never even made it out of the shop so I can't say if it was good, but I think it would have been ok.
