Default Anyone built their own headers?

Just curious is anyone has built a set for their truck. I was thinking about trying it and checkin around for the best places to buy mandrel bends and header flanges. I was also wondering if I should step the headers from 1.625" to 1.75" and keep them around 30-36" for midrange torque? If stepped, what length of 1.625" do I use? I don't plan on turning this motor much more than 6200rpm or so. I already have a set of flowmaster pulse-tech collectors that I will use. Any suggestions are welcome

Thanks, I am checkin those out. I found GM ls1 header flanges at SDPC (sponsor) and I am looking for a sponsor that sells bends and tubing. I am going to ceramic coat them for sure, I wonder if I should spend the extra money for stainless or just go with mild steel? I think I have decided to step them 1.625 to 1.75", I figure the section of 1.625" can't flow any less than my stock heads and if anything it might aid in scanvenging.

Building your own headers are pretty tough to get everything to line up but it would definitely be a fun project plus how cool is it that you built your own headers?!?

I figure that it will take me forever, but I have attempted similar projects before. These shorties were on my dads C5, the steps are about 10" long. I still need to research that length. I could buy a set of longtubes and come out time and money ahead, but I really enjoy fabbing my own parts. It will be a warm up for some turbo manifolds for my 05

Here is an update on my headers. I have all parts for my exhaust in stock except for the header flanges which are on order. I have 4 1.625" U bends, 4 1.75" U bends, 1.75"x2.75" collectors, 3" random tech cats, 3"x2.5" reducers, 2.5"x3.5" Y, 3.5" Hooker Aerochamber. Laying on the workbench it was 6' long! Here are some pics of what I got going on;
