Any way to prevent header bolts from breaking???
#1
Hey guys, I getting ready to install a set of pacesetter long tubes on my old mans truck next weekend. When I installed my longtubes on the truck in the sig, I broke the rear driver side bolt, closest to the fire wall on #7 cylinder. I don't really have header leak unless tq converter is locked up and I'm going up a steep hill.
Any who I took some serious convincing to get him to buy some headers for his 06 silverado and he will blow a gasket if this process breaks a header bolt. lol
When I swapped my header I used some anti seas lube and waited an hourish, is there any other tricks yall know about to prevent this problem?

soaked mine for close to a weak, while getting the truck warm and letting it cool and respraying, or vice versa, can't remember, still broke two.
Go into it with the big possibility that it can/will happen, feel lucky if it doesn't! My truck had like 63k miles too, buddies 140k mile truck had zero break, go figure!

If you break a bolt, this might work for you:
Dorman Products - 917-107
It's for the factory manifolds, but it should work for headers too, as they all use the same mounting points, not taking into account for flange thickness and manifold shape.

I used Kroil, read that it puts PB blaster to shame on a few forums. I will say that it has broken some rusty parts lose over the years that PB didn't do anything on. Soaked the bolts daily for a week, they backed right out without a hiccup at 110k miles. To me, it was worth the extra $$$ not to have to drill a broken bolt out.

On my old truck I went to fasental and got a box of grade 10.9 allen head bolts to use and put some antiseeze on them when I put them in. Never had a problem. New truck uses arp studs.
