Any reason why I cant make a alum shroud to mount my elec fans on?

Just take some decent stock sheet aluminum, cut it so it sits on the raised aluminum edge around the core/fins? That way theres a half to 3/4 inch of air space between the fins and the fans. Where theres not a fan mounted, should I cut open so air can pass throught the radiator then the shroud? The LT1 fan shroud has holes in the dead spaces above and below hte fans, but LS1 do not
