I read in a book that by cutting off part of the piece that sticks into the intake, you will gain a FEW extra horses. It's not supposed to fail the smog test because it can still function as it's supposed to but you don't have a piece of tubing blocking half the intake. They gave the exact length to cut off but I'm not sure what the exact length was. I do know it was between 1-2 inches. I don't remember which book it was in. I was scanning through several of them at Walden Books.

How much did you cut off? I've been thinking about doing this mod but I will be moving to Cali soon, so I don't want any hassles from the smog guys.

I read about this mod in the "hp books ls1/ls6....somethin or other". They had step by step instructions. Turns out that the f-body instructions are slightly different then our trucks.

Same here. It's not going to kill the ozone new trucks don't even have it. After awhile you get tired of cleaning your intake because the throttle sticks.

Benefits - Cleaner intake, no sticky gas pedal, cleaner engine bay

Drawbacks - SES light

The ozone thing was kind of a joke...and I agree that the infamous throttle stick is no longer a problem.

If you race and you go to the track and open your exhaust in front the cat you are messing the ozone.I took mine egr off why have it if I turned it off looks better less under the hood.

I might just do it this weekend. I do have the ability to clear the codes and fix other tuning issues that might arise.
