Any differences in 2002-2005 5.3 V8
#1
I just purchased a 2004 GMC Sierra that was on an insurance auction. The truck drowned during Katrina so I anticipate I will be changing the engine and transmission. I need to know if there are any significant differences between the 2002-2005 5.3 V8? Also, would it be very difficult to use a 6.0 engine? What would the change entail?

Starting in late 02' since some members w/ 02's have this I believe, they started using Drive by wire.
05' had the optional L33 Aluminum 5.3 H.O.
But if your just swapping blocks, you shouldn't have any issues since you'll probably reuse all your assessories and such.
For the 6.0, you'll want a 01' and newer and it will bolt in the same as a 5.3.
Oh and I have a 5.3 for sale if your interested....

In 2003 the pistons came with a coating on the skirts of the pistons to try and eliminate the startup knock of the GEN 3 V8's.
A 6.0 LQ$ or LQ9 will drop right in place of any other 4.8 or 5.3.
