Default Any benefits from removing EGR ?

Would there be any loss/gain in power from the removal of the EGR equipment? I have a 208/216 .500 cam if this makes a difference with the longer duration cam. If there are no negative side effects to this I think I will remove the EGR stuff. LS1edit will be here next week <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I cant tell much SOTP difference from removing mine but it will keep everything topside of the motor a lot cleaner. That has got to amount to something over time.

mine is gone, geting rid of the ugly thing is probably the bigest benifit but who knows, not having a tube blocking the incoming air has to help a little. also with a whipple it is alot easier to mount without the egr there.

with ls1 edit i went thru and turned off all the tests for the egr but still got a ses light. i had to go into the "does error set ses" and turn those off also, the actual words are "type x = turned off" once i did that no more ses lights. you will see what i am talking about when you get it.

Cool, thanks guys. My buddy told me that removing the EGR raises combustion temps by a couple hundred degrees. This can lead to knock, which is understandable, but is he correct? We were also wondering if my cam would allow for "enough" exhaust gas recirculation on its own because of the 113lsa the exhaust valve and intake valve would be open at the same time for a longer period than they normally would be with the stock camshaft - thus some exhaust would be in the incomming air charge (like an EGR does). Any ideas on that? or does the EGR equipment put in LOTS of exhaust into the combustion chambers more so than could be made up with the new cam?
