Default Another Intake Question please help

Alright for you guys who know intakes i need help selecting either a volant intake kit, a AFE FIPK, or the generation II K&N. I have a 02 5.3 GMC with the 30 series exhaust. I was going to go with the UPD intake but i got some bad info about it and how it has cracked. Some people dont like how the intakes make the noise but im kinda looking for that and of course the power. If you can help me out with your choice and a website that i can look it up at Thks.

if you want an intake that makes noise you should go with an open element one. I have used volant before and liked it. I hear the new outlaw is proven to be one of the best but it is a closed element CAI. Right now I am running an AEM Brute force and love it. Changed my exhaust note some and when you get on it you can hear it sucking the air in and it sounds awesome. Performance seems to have gotten better also and my mpg's increased some also. The one thing that is good about the closed element CAI's is that you can make them ram air which I always liked, i did it on my volant, but i like my open element CAI the best and will prob stick with it from here on out

Typically, with closed-box CAIs you can create a ram-air setup with 4" flexible hose, some clamps and something to cut a hole in the air box. The Volant CAI has an optional ram-air tube that pulls air from the tow hook opening in the air dam into an opening in the bottom of the box.

Does anybody have any dyno numbers on any CAI's? From what I've read through searching Google, seems like the K&N makes more power than the Volant until the under hood temps rise, then they're about the same. Volant seems to be quieter. I looked into the True Flow setup, but it's numbers were the same as stock except for about 3200 to 3800 rpm, where it made 11hp over stock...and it's like $270 for just the tube and filter! (kinda pricey for a CAI w/o the box IMO)

I don't know of anyone who uses one...I did a search a couple of days ago and didn't come up with too much. Maybe someone else has more experience with it and can chime in.

if you go over to silveradoss.com there is a lot of info on all the intakes. Theres a thread that shows dyno sheets of the outlaw, k&n and stock for some references. Just do a search and there will be a ton of info
