I was just thinking, will any of the cams mentioned (208/218, or 212/218) Pass smog, and with or without cats needed?

Don't really need a custom cam - have you checked out the Comp LSr cams?

54-455-11: 215/223 with .607/.610

54-456-11: 219/227 with .610/.614

They're supposed to be really good with the 4.8 and 5.3. I keep trying to get some feedback on them, as I'm in the same boat as you and these cams sound really good. But it doesn't seem like a lot of people are running them.

I was quoted something with lower than .600 though, which those are not...I'm no expert

Hey man, I'm hoping my truck will be getting out of the trans shop next week. I just got around to dropping it off. Haven't forgot about you lol. I'll give you a shout when I get it if you still want to drive it.

I don't know where the 706 heads fall off as far as airflow, but the 243/799 heads don't see really any gain after .550 lift.
