Another 5.3 to 6.0 swap
#1
I have a 2004 suburban with a 5.3 that is wore out. I want to swap to a 6.0.
1. What year 6.0 would work best for me?
2. Should I use the aluminum heads off the 5.3?
3. Where would be the best place to get a small cam?
4. What can I expect for horsepower and torque gains?
5. Anything I am forgetting?

1. 01 and up preferably 05or 06 and up since they changed a few things
2. No
3. Texas Speed, Thunder Racing, Vinici, Summit, Jegs tons of places....
4. Depends on what is done to increase power and torque gains over stock
5. Yes

It depends on your budget, but I did a 6.0 swap on my 02 Avalanche and picked up a lot over the stock 5.3L. I used the stock 5.3 heads with Patriot springs, a 224/224 cam I bought used on LS1Tech, a set of painted Pacesetters, and an airbox. Ran 15.1 @ 90.5 MPH, full weight. That was with a stock catback, stock converter, stock mechanical fan. Some LS2 heads would've given some more top end, but I was really happy with it.
I am actually getting ready to do a 4.8 to 6.0 swap on the wife's '99 1500 we just got. Probably going to do a lot of the same stuff, except actually change the converter, catback, and go with e-fans. And some 799 heads.
