Cruising at 1500 rpm means the converter will be locked up anyways, whether it's 3rd or 4th gear, so no change. My truck only turns 1900 at 75mph.

my '05 rclb with 4.8 ran 14.90 @92mph. Mods were 4.56 gears, mild tune to remove some torque management on shifts, no cats and highflow catback.

The gears and tune really woke up the truck. Removing the cats didnt seem to add any power, just a lot of noise.

If you do a lot of highway driving the gears can be annoying. With 4.56 and 31" tall tire engine turns 2500rpms at 70mph. Even with the gears it still cant do a burnout.

Torque converter swap is best bang for the buck. They give much more torque from a dig for a bettter launch and they help during shifts. See if you can get a ride in something with high stall to get a better idea what they do. A lot of ls1 f-body have stalls
