Default Amsoil vs K&N. Found this on the Web.

I was searching the Web for air filter comparison tests and found this guys site. He tested an Amsoil and K&N drop in filter, and a K&N FIPK on his S/C Toyota 4Runner. It was pretty interesting, I may have to try an Amsoil filter.

My last oil analysis showed a VERY low silicon level (12 ppm), indicating that the leaching of bonding agents has stopped and that the K&N air filter is working very well. If dirt is present, it will show up as silicon in an oil analysis. Also, I had an AmsOil air filter in my T/A for a little while. The "oil" was sticky as gum and very hard to work with, and the filter was so flimsy that it kept falling out of the tray, allowing unfiltered air in. That can't be worse than the dreaded K&N misnomor. No flames...I'm just posting hard data and my personal experience.
