Default Alternator Loads

Ok guys, getting near Xmas and I have some dillemas. Currently my alternator is running like a champ and pushing about 14V (knock on wood). During christmas time I hook up a 10 5-light strings in parallel (12V for each string) on a wreath that plugs into the headlight wiring. I also have e-fans and a 600W amplifier(profile Clarus 600). I am hoping soon to add some train horns which will need to drive a compressor (12V 10-12 Amps) every once and a while when I lay on the horns. Now, right now with just the fans and amp there is hardly a dimming problem(don't drive the amp super hard), and I can really only see it in the cluster mileage display when idling. however, with the xmas lights and the horn I can see a problem coming. Just wondering if 140 would be enough or if I would have to go bigger. Do the bigger ones just swap straight in like the 140's do?

Thanks,
Andrew

140 should handle the load. That being said, I would go bigger because if the alternator stays near max output consistently, it will fail prematurely.

Cool, thanks. I'll take a look around to see what I can find.

A little info on the train horn, I went to Purdue for college and at the football games they set of a train horn when they score (been happening a lot less these three past games unfortunately). Well anyway, Grandpa went to a game and wanted to get me one for my 95 Silvy. He passed away and never got around to it, and now I have the truck he had and thought it would be cool to have that on there. This is the one I want, I've found below 165Hz sounds the most realistic. It's the cannonball (http://www.wolo-mfg.com/truck.htm)
