Alternative to ATAP?
#1
Does anyone have, or used, the software from Car Code? The website is obd-2.com and it looks like it has all the basic functions of Atap for only $122. I think I might get this.

I have both. I bought autotap, for myself. A friend bought the OBD-2 from Alex Peper. My friend doesn't have a laptop, so I have his cable and software. I'll admit, I don't use it. I am more familiar with autotap. I was able to connect to my truck with it and view SES coded and such.

If you go onto that website it says it is closed temporarily. There is quite a bit of OBDII info on the site and the screens that you can view look very similar to some of the Atap screens. I'd like to know if Big Tex would give his opinion on how the two compare since he has both of them. That's how you will really find out which one is best regardless of price. I have a handheld scan tool (KalEquip 9615). It is only generic, but it does about 90% of the stuff you need to do. It doesn't have all the elaborate screens that a laptop does and it does not do the enhanced codes or bi-directioal commands. I think Atap is a good deal if you already have a laptop, but if you don't a handheld tool might be the way to go.
