Default Air Filter Suggestions

I would like to get some air filter recommendations. I know some will say not to get the oiled filters due to the possibility of messing up the MAF sensor. However, when I was looking at the Airraid website their numbers of comparing stock air filters to their oiled and non-oiled filters appeared to show that the oiled filters allowed quite a bit more air flow.

If you take care of your oiled filter have there really been that many that have problems? I did have a K&N CAI on a '99 Tahoe before and didn't seem to have any problems.

What specofoc air filters would you recommend and would you recommend the oiled or non-oiled?

My plan is to replace the stock air tube to allow better flow but keep the stock air box since I like the fact that is "shut off" from the engine compartment. Plus it would be cheaper on me than an entire CAI kit. Thanks.

I say k&n, never had an issue, be sure not to over oil it when cleaning and you should be fine... If your concerned, shoot some maf cleaner accross your sensor in your maf tube every once in a while, keep your distance when spraying, you dont want to damage the sensor

This is what i do. I am running the K&N kit as well with great results. To me its just part of routine maintenance making sure the filter is clean and LIGHTLY oiled.

listen i had a k&n in my 6.0 and i heard bad stuff about them robbing power so i decided to check. my buddy justin has the efi live software and it reads hp and tq at the flywheel. i gained 5 hp and 5 foot lbs of tq with a paper filter over the k&n. both were new. this was with the stock setup

I never had a problem with my oiled filters, but was never very fond of the idea either. I had both a K&N FIPK and currently a Volant with ram air tube. I switched out the oiled Volant filter for a dry flow Amsoil filter and have been very happy with the results...I didn't feel a difference either way. Check Amsoil's site and see what they have to offer in a "lifetime" dry drop in replacement.

Airaid SynthaMax (dry filter) here. I'm happy with it. I don't like the idea of having an oiled filter and I may boost in the future, so I definitely didn't want to worry about that.

I went ahead and got the Airaid Jr kit so I could get both the dry filter and the intake tube. I'm definitely satisfied with both.
