well i think that the stock pcm will handle most of the power you are going to wsant to push. but i think there is an aftermarket one that parish is using. megasquirt i think. pm him or maybe he will chime in.

Just saw this post... Jim's got the first LS1 Megasquirt up and running, controlling Fuel, Fans, and Nitrous. I built the MS, he installed it. It works great.
It does the same thing a Big Stuff 3, FAST, or DFI Gen 7 will do for you. (Actually, it does more than some of these). BUt like with any other standalone, you must be prepared to make a technical commitment - there are always bugs/issues you'll face when both learning the ins & outs of standalone ECMs, and learning the tuning process in general (two separate learning curves you face at once).
However, Megasquirt price makes it the best bang for the buck - bar NOTHING.
I think that you should only consider a standalone EMS when you KNOW your current engine management won't comfortably support the mods / power levels you seek... However, I've seen some guys approach it differently - they get the motor running on the standalone in a near-stock (easy to tune) configuration, and get comfortable with tuning, THEN they do the big mods. It depends on what will work best for you.... the one thing I can GUARANTEE, is if you set up some kind of deadline before installing an EMS, then sure enough you will blow that deadline. I.e., don't schedule the dyno pulls before you have the bugs worked out.
