So my 2004 Silverado still has the 4.3 for the time being, but I have an LQ4 in the garage that will be going in eventually. My fuel pump just gave out this weekend. I don't want to put a new pump in it now and need another new pump when the LQ4 goes in later this year.

I've been looking around on here and have seen some threads with installs where it seems like the 340 (specifically the 11142) works just fine, just needs some securing in the bucket.

I e-mailed Racetronix about my needs since they make the hotwire kit and they told me I will need to do some modding to get the 340 to work with the factory module. I have seen many people mention that the 4.3 in the Silverado is returnless, but I have two fuel lines going into my intake (injectors are inside plenum) Is that the module Racetronix is talking about?

So if I pick up a 11142 will it work with the 4.3 until I get the 6.0 in?

 

Well as a followup, the 340 does work. My truck was already a return-style system, despite what some people said. I had to cut a small area out of the rubber sock that goes on top of the pump since the 340 points the strainer in the opposite direction. Also, I forgot to order a strainer with the pump, but one from a 2nd gen (I used 1997) Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX fits the pump.

Even though multiple places state that the voltage and ground wires must be swapped on the 340, this was not the case with me. Also, I had to get a foot of submersible fuel line from NAPA, I was not able to save the straw one.

I just installed it today, and was unable to use the 2004-up hotwire harness, so I will report back after I get the correct one and install it.

 

If you haven't, you want to upgrade the bulkhead electrical connector to the newer flat 4 pin style. The old style is the square 4 pin and the newer one can handle about twice the amperage. I used the 04 up harness on mine but had to re-pin most of it on the bulkhead side as it wasn't correct in my application (i.e. power and ground switched, among other things).

 

Yeah, I am going to upgrade that bulkhead when I do the harness, they come as a combo. I heard the square one is only good to 18A or so.

 

I installed a walbro 255 in my truck end of last year and im very happy with it! and the prices on them are amazing!

you WILL need to rewire it with whatever fuel pump you decide on, after about a week or two the bigger pump with burn up your factory small gm wiring
I just got some 12 gauge black/red wire and ran from my fuel pump to inside, and then installed a relay that goes from the factory relay that way it kicks on when its suppose to factory style

 

Took a little over a week to get it here and install it, but the pump wiring is nice and beefy now. Fortunately my factory wiring didn't have any problems, but I didn't want to risk it, especially going on a road trip this weekend. I changed the bulkhead to the flat 4-pin style as well. I had upgraded the in-tank wiring when I put the 340 in.
