you can do that and bolt up your stock catback exhaust to it. just replace the stock muffler with an aerochamber or magnaflow. (straight through muffler design)

pacesetter's Y pipe is catless... but many have fabbed their stock cats into it.

Here's my story. Knew I wanted duel out the sides same angle as 2500 HD's as my
1500HD 6.0 has the 5.3 exhaust, also wanted T304 stainless steel because of being
from Massachusetts and rust. All the diesel guys like the MBRP so I got it. Well too
loud for me. Installed a factory 2500 muffler and cut out block off to have 2 in 2 out,
well that sounded like a air compressor. Install Magnaflow muffler and still too loud.
Installed cut out to block off right side tailpipe and installed extra muffler on left side
tailpipe so now it can be quiet and loud when I want. My point with this info. is try to
find some trucks with exhaust you want and drive them sound clips are tough as I thought
I wanted loud till I had to live with it.
I even pulled my interior to install Dynamat to quiet it did not seem to be worth the effort.
Good luck with your choice, take your time on your decision as I can't
imagine the time and money I spent to have duel exhaust

yea a straight through muffler makes the world of difference especially up top, i did have a flowmaster and i switched to a flo pro which is designed just like magnaflow and man does my truck feel good up top.
