Well maybe...but I doubt that a tahoe will go 87mph in the 1/4 if my pickup with the same motor gcould only muster 82mph. I'm in the same boat..driving my 10 second LT1 is more fun but apples to oranges.

lt193z was dead on.

I went:

16.80@82.66
2.529 60 ft

16.80@82.42
2.514 60 ft

details:
-Raced at GLD in WI, 700 ft above sea level
-I have 3.08/locker combo
-If I manually shift I can increase mph and still go thru traps in 2nd at around 5800
-Foot braking up to 1500 helps.
-Weather was off by 2 tenths we think.
-5100 raceweight

So all in all maybe 16.5@84mph with some mods is possible.

99 Tahoe
all stock, 103k miles, new plugs

That seems just about right. The thing that is hurting you the most is the gears . I've got 3.73s which helped me get a 2.3x 60 ft, but I'm still going through the traps at ~4000 in 3rd gear. I guess 4.10s would be optimal but this is the tow vehicle for me too so that is out of the question with my 29" tires.

Yeah with the 3.08's the truck can't spin the tires from a stop.

I'd rather do a converter than gears, but I have 4.10's in the Formula and I don't mind the rpms that much.

I'm wondering if a Flowmaster muffler will help without making it too loud.

well for reference my truck is 2000 rpm @ 70 mph with stock height 235/75/15 tires, and 3.73 gears. From a dead stop it lights the tires up pretty hard all the way through 1st from a dead stop. I have been thinking of doing a factory vette converter which should stall about 2400 rpm and they are cheap too, I think ~$220. I have 4.10s in the Moser 12 bolt on my Z28 with a three speed auto. I don't even like getting on the freeway anymore in that car. It was much more liveable with a 3.73 / 6 speed combo.
