Default about to buy a 4.3 truck, whats the diff in swapping to 6.0 compared to...

whats the difference in the 6.0 swap if i start with a 4.3 truck. i searched for a minute but couldnt find anything, so sorry if its right in front of me. i am about to buy a 99-03 gm, and it would be real easy/cheap to settle for one with a 4.3, but i know i will end up doing the 6.0 swap soon, so is there any difference in the wiring/tranny/etc that will cause problems with the 6.0 swap? any 6.0 swap threads/sites that i should read? thanks, sean

I would recommend finding a truck that already has a V8. Anything from a 4.8L up. There would be lots of wiring differences and many parts you would need. It is pretty much a direct swap with a 4.8, 5.3.

There is some good reading, but unfortunately the search is not working yet.

i may be doing this in the near future also... in a 99-02... so everything else just bolts up with the 6.0 if i got a 4.8 and up? same wiring? what about the pcm?

It is almost a direct swap. You use everything external off of your 4.8/5.3 (intake manifold, all sensors, etc.) You just need the long block. It is important to get a 6.0 from a year model 2001+ if you are installing this on a 4L60E. The 99-2000's have a slightly longer crankshaft and are designed with the 4L80E in mind. A stock 6.0 will more than likely run on a stock 4.8/5.3 pcm tune, but tuning for the larger engine is highly recommended.

well a friend of mine is just finishing up with a 4.3 to a 5.7 lsi swap.it is very costly to do. but not to hard.the truck would be down for a little while also.

Check www.car-part.com for used, or www.sdpc2000.com for new gm crate motor.
