What is up with all of this I have been hearing about the 99 5.3s are slower than the rest of the years? What is different? Is it because 02s have no egr? New cams? Don't the factory advertise the same amount of horsepower for all of the years?? Couldn't us 99s just change out what ever is different and be as fast??

I know someone has SOME info on this!! Thinking of this makes me sick and want to give up!! Just kidding. Just a little discouraged if I do all this work and am like a lot slower than 00-03s.

 

The 99 5.3's have a different cam than the other years. They are rated at 270 HP, while the newer ones are rated at 285 HP.

 

99's have a smaller cam and smaller injectors. Not to worry. If you ever plan a cam swap you will be right on par.

I didn't know that the injectors were upgraded from the 99.
