Default 99 to 02 pcm

Just wondering if this would work, I know that swaping a 99 pcm to a 02 pcm will make a world of diffrence. I work at a dealership and I have heard something about taking the program out of the 99 pcm and uploading a 02 program back into the 99. I'm not really good with the Tech2 but getting better with it. Just wondering if this would work or if any one has tried it.

yes they will work with turning off the alternator sensor in the pcm. or i think creedarado found out how to make the battery light go off by adding a wire to the pcm from the alternator. heck yay it will work.

heres my old post.
old post

Allen Nelson (farmtruc) at Nelson performance has tuned my truck and I highly recomend him if you don't use edit or Hp tuners yourself.

I believe he has figured out a way of eliminating the need for the extra wire.
You might want to give him a shout for a tune while your swapping the pcms.
he is a sponsor.

I did it and it works great. I just added the wire to the alternator.

The 02 PCM is definitely the way to go...not sure if you can load the 02 program into a 99 PCM though. I think Big Tex mentioned something about there being a difference internally between the two.

I have a 2002 pcm in my father's 99 model truck. I left the 2002 program in it since it is so much better than the 99's. I also, with the help of allen, adjusted the tune to give a little extra power. You also must turn off a DTC for generator circuit terminal "xx" I forget which one it is. Easy swap, but if you don't have a tuning program you will have to add a wire from the alternator to the pcm.

Yeah, there is more memory in the 02 pcm. The 02 program wouldn't fit in the 99.

Interesting......this is kinda a side note, but I feel its along the same lines as all the other questions.

Say I have a 2000 truck, and I swap to an '02 PCM. Now lets say I want to get HP tuners. What year vehicle would I buy for, 2000 or 2002?
