My roommate is wanting to drop a grand or two in his 98 Z, its got the 350. Does anyone know where to go with this older pickup? We were thinking cam, long tubes, gears... any info would help, I have no experience with that powerplant..

A few of us have the 96-99 5.7 L31 engine.
I've done a UPD airbox, 3.7'3's, eaton posi, hooker aerochamber muffler and I have a yank 2800 stall in the box. I'm hoping for low 15's in the Tahoe.

I use to have a 97 z71. First unless your going to bigger tires dont mess with the gears. You already have 3.42 or 3.73 and its really not worth it. I would personally make it faster by cam, heads port and polish, nitrous. Sounds about right. You should be more specific what you w3ant out of it. just to go fast or to still off raod, bigger tires etc.....

i'd say cai with headers and a good cat back. LT1 cam (a bit of a hp bump usually found for about 35 buck's used and ok with stock valve springs) with a bit of port work on the heads. 2800 stall and a 4.10 gear with programming and shift kit/servo's. should be enough to get somewhere. if you need heads, go fastburns or e-tec's from edelbrock as a bolt on aluminum.
