Default 8.1L performance

One of my fellow firefighters just got an 02 8.1L with the Allison trans. He is looking for some performance parts for it. Keep in mind he is 45yrs old, and has a family. Any recomendations. He doesnt have the $ for a s/c, but an intake, HPPIII headers and so on he can swing. I recomended JBA headers, a cat back, K&N FIPK ,HPPIII, and a MAF Descreen

Tom Byrne has the 8.1 Suburban that they are building up. I'm sure he'll have just about anything for your friend's 8.1.

I would suggest the Volant for the 8.1L, better heat isolation and opens it up nicely, de-screen may make it lean, no noticeable gain. The JBA's are nice, but check ou The Other Guys also and a 12590 Magnaflow will do everything that a full cat back will do for 1/4 the cost.
