Hey Guys,

Im thinking about swapping a 8.1 liter Chevy motor into my Denali. I was wondering if anyone has done this swap or into a regular sized yukon and not a yukon xl? Are the motor mounts the same between the trucks? How difficult would this swap be? What Trans does that 8.1 use? What other issues would come into play as far as the axles are concerned?driveshaft?

Any help would be greatly appreciated of course unless its "dont waste your time"

I'm pretty sure most 8.1's come in front of the Allison trans, but it'd do fine with a 4L80E. Don't know of anybody that's done this swap but it has potential. Maybe if you could find someone with the 8.1 they could tell you a little more about it. The only person on here that has the 8.1 is Tierod I think, but I may be wrong. Good luck with the swap and hope it works out for you.

 

The 3/4 ton Avalanche and the 'burbn and XL have the 4L80E with the 8.1. So a 80 is needed. It would be cheaper to find a donor truck and get all the parts off. Mounts, rad, harness and Computer etc... If you get it in there I bet that thing would be nasty!

 

Thanks guys I really appreciate your help. I have a friend who's dad works for GM and he would prolly be able to tell me more. I initially got the idea because he has Suburb with the 8.1 and that thing is fast for a tank!!
