A 408 is 6.7L, so the 7.0L doesn't impact my decision (plus I already have the rotating assembly hehe)

This is the first I heard of it too... Up here in the LS2 motor forum, there are some 'spy' pics.

The 7.0L is the 427ci C5R race motor. Rumor has it that this is what GM is planning do to for the C6 Z06 Corvette to compete with the Viper, M5, etc. 500 hp/trq, dry sump oiling system, hi flow heads, the list goes on and on.
God I love the HP wars! Luckily GM is trickling down the race technology to the masses.

GM was originally trying to use a 6.4 for the Z07 engine but the 7.0 made the engine more reliable and easier to meet emmissions through 2009. Besides, when they make the "Blue XXXX" available down the road, it is easier to make 650HP!!!!!!!

Although you are correct about the C5R engine being a 7.0L, this 7.0L is a production engine.
Check out pics my buddy took while we were at Laguna Seca this past October. I don't think they like us there anymore nor the server I used to host these pics

Great pics, Ryan! Kinda thought this was the way GM was going to go on the 2006 Z06 but wasn't sure. Heard they could not get the 500+ HP they were looking for from the modified LS2 motor and decided to use the race inspired block and dimensions.
