im planning on doing the same... from what ive heard, the 4l80e is a good tranny for it... n depends on what you want to do with the truck for gears... someone else needs to chime in for that...

lemme know what you choose to do... and where are you getting your 6?

I guess it all depends on how strong you plan to make the 6.0...I'd like to do one myself with a built 4L60/65E. I believe that the gearing is better than the 80E for performance, but the 80E is bulletproof!!

what exactly are the pros and cons of each? i mean... lets say that you wanted a truck for stoplight to stoplight racing and occasional 1/4 track racing?

I'm no guru in this area, but from what I understand it's kinda as follows:

4L60E pro's - bolts right in, better gearing
cons - weak

4L65E - stronger than 60E, but not as strong as 80E by any means

4L80E pro's - STRONG
cons - gearing is less desireable than the 60E, heavier, not a direct swap for a truck that came with a 60E

Just a quick summary, hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in

...oh yea, there's a 4L85E also...

I don't believe its worth investing $1 on a 4L60 build. Too many people have had problems with them. Fortunately, mine hasn't even hiccupped at 80k miles, but if it ever gives me any problems at all I'm going for the 4L80e with the swap kit from Speed Engineering. I'm thinking it's as cheap or cheaper than a "good" 4L60 or 65e "built" trans anyway.
