Default 6.0L Swaps Gas Mileage

I hate asking this kind of question on a Performance board, but I'm just curious for those that have swapped in a mildly stock 6.0 into your trucks, what type of mileage do you get. I have read anywhere from 13 for an LQ4 to 21 for LQ9 and LQ4. Just wondering what the swappers get with maybe heads and a mild cam as the biggest mod.

I know right now with my 4.8 I get 15-17 city /19-20 highway in the summer.

well what kind of gears do you have. 13-15 is probably the best you'll do. Thats the best i can get out of mine.

Wow, absolutely not. Think about how much more your truck weighs than his.

You will get better mileage than with the 4.8. There are guys on here who get over 20mpg.

You are right though. A lot of people's number fluctates, but it's just like any other engine. A stock lq4 is gonna get different gas mileage than one with full bolt ons, a big cam and a big stall.

I routinely get 16.2-16.3 in combined driving and 19.1-19.4 on long trips (at a little less than 2000 cruise rpm) with average driving habits. Aggressive driving tends to net about 1-1.5 mpg less in combined driving.

The best ever was 19.84 over a 180 mile trip but the cruise speed was lower (about 55-57 mph).

I do have a manual transmission (M5) and that helps quite a bit. I'm considering a 6 speed (for a better power spread) and one of it's side benefits will be the higher o.d gearing in 6th.

A caveat here.....my tune is a bit on the crisp side in everything but the cruise mode. When I have it retuned, I may come up with different results.

IN my 01 C3 (exc) with the LQ4, awd and 3.73, before modding it got very good with about 16 around town and over 20 on a 65 mph cruise.
My 06 cc4wd that is 300 lbs heavier and with a LQ9 and 4.10 gears is about 1 mpg less all things being equal and treading lightly on the gas.

Yeah, reg cab long bed, 4700 lbs. I'm just a little leary of swapping over and right off the bat killing 3-4MPG off what I get now.

I dont know about mine but I would say14-15 city and 19 highway... but the 3900 stall is killing me on the city plus the way I drive it..

it all depends on your right foot...
