Default 6.0L engine with other than 317 casting heads?

Hey guys, well im in the market for a 6.0l for my Sierra. I found some at this junkyard place, they have arround 6 vortec engines, 2 of them have the #317 casting alluminum heads. One is from a Denali, and the other from a 2500HD. The other 4 engines: 2 of them have #706 alluminum cast heads, the other 2 have #862 alluminsum cast heads? Are this 6.0L as well? If so wich are better the better heads? Im leaning more to the Denali 6.0 engine but, it the truck was hit from the front in the accident. The engine shows some visible damage, broken head cover, rusty spring inside head, pully brackets, etc. The 2500HD truck was also hit from the front, it has a broken air intake, throtle, coils, etc. Well guys Id appreciate any help i can get, laters The Bandit-Z.....

denali engine will be a lq9 version which has better internals, the heads should physically all be the same, just different cast # but as long as they are alum, the same.. Sounds like they all require some serious looking into, tear down, etc.. I'd go for the denali motor, take the heads etc off, maybe even put new bearings etc inside, but otherwise it should be a good foundation for your project. What are they asking for these motors? keep in mind a brand new GM Lq9 is now $3900..

Well the "U" letter is on the vin# of the denali. I thought that was for the LQ4. In any case if it is the LQ9, than that is way much better. The price he gave me is $1,600, but I think theres room for negotiation maybe $1,400. In a case like this that the head cover is broken would one take apart the whole engine or just heads & intake?

U is the LQ4 and N is the LQ9. If hes asking $1600 for that LQ4, talk his *** down. You can almost always get them for around $1200 elsewhere. Im assuming hes gonna want a $200 dollar core charge on top of that anyway. Bastards and their core charges!!

You mean it has a broken/cracked valve cover? If thats the case, just yank it off. See how the rockers and such under it look and slap a new valve cover on. Just make sure no huge chunks are missing from the valve cover. They might be in the pan or better places.

That one engine is a 6.0 but the other 4 engines are 4.8/5.3's. The 706 heads are sand cast and flow a little better than the 862's. The sand cast is a smoother cast than die-cast. Either way go with the 6.0. These smaller engines just dont cut it. LOL

I could be wrong, but the only thing the LQ9 comes in is the SS and the Escalades. The Denali and the HD's are all LQ4's.

I have a question guys, are all the air intakes (air manifold) the same in the 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines? If so I could go with the 6.0L from the 2500HD. If what snake eater said about the LQ9 only being on SS & ESCALADES, than both Denali and 2500HD engines are LQ4's? Id rather take the engine that only has a small crack on the air intake(replace it with my 4.8L intake) then the one that has an open head cover with rusty springs, dirt, etc inside.

My LQ4 came out of a 2500HD. It will work man. Although I do have to get rid of the electronic TB thats on it.

Yeah the 2500HD engine is a 6.0l, 317 cast alluminum heads, and also has electronic throttle control. Its from an 03 chevy 2500HD, my question was if the air intake manifolds from the 4.8,5.3,6.0 flow the same then I can simply replace the cracked intake & (throttle body) that the 6.0 has for the one my 4.8 has rite? Hey "99Silver5.3" what #(1/4 et, HP, TQ) are you putting down with your LQ4 w/the cam you have in?

The intake off your 4.8 will bolt right up. They are the same. My motor is still on a stand. Dont quite have it ready yet.
