being in new york, i am pretty sure you have to keep your cats. you will want long tube headers cause shorties are identical to stock. most lt headers require custom work to attach cats. the only one i can think of that doesnt is the dynatech supermaxx set. comes complete with headers, cats and y pipe.

yeah, screw dynatechs. Get some Pacesetter LTs (ceramic coated if u want them to stay pretty, or even high temp paint on painted ones.) Then go to a muffler shop, have them put one or both of ur factory cats in (say a y pipe off the headers into a single then put a cat in then a muffler, or whatever u wanna do.) But being in NY and me knowing nothing about their smog laws I'd say stay on the safe side

I don't know how your exhaust is but I have an 03 1500 HD an it is dual pipes all the way to the muffler no Y pipe needed and to me the cats look to be far enough back that no changes to the cat's location is needed. I was just going to get some LTs and have them welded to the rest of the system. To me I see little advantage of the pipes merging into one off the headers. I have a dual inlet single outlet Magnaflow on the truck and it seems to be fine. Just something to think about before you buy a Y pipe you might not need.
