6.0 swap
#1
Hey,
I've got a 00 Chevy z71 reg. cab 4.8. Im looking to gain a little power and was thinking about swaping for a 6L. Were is a good web site that sells these engines, how much would it cost to get it done, and how much could I sell my 40k miles 4.8 for? Thanks for the help.

the heads on the 4.8 are worth something like $300, thats about all there is of value there.
there are rebuildable 6.0's for sale right now for around $900 a couple of places on this site. one in the truck clasifieds and another guy in the regular clasifides with several for sale. i also have one for sale that is ready to drop in, it is a 2002 model from a denali it only has 10000miles on it but i was pushing it prety hard for a few of them.
when looking for a 6.0 make sure it is a 2001 or newer model with the aluminum heads, the older motors wont drop right in.

So this would be a much better option that a supercharger? What is required to put the 6L in? What are the nnumbers on that engine? What would be my 0-60 times, 1/8 and 1/4? How much hp. and tq. can the tranny handle? Sorry for all the questions,, but im dying to do this.

better than a supercharger? bang for the buck i believe that it would be better than a blower, it wont give you quite as much as a blower but it costs ALOT less, blowers are more complex and more effected my the weather then more cubes. more cubes is going to get worse miliage all the time where a blower does good on gas except when you are on it.
an ls1 would drop right in just like the 6.0 but you would want to use all the truck intake and fuel system. an ls1 is a prety good option because you will be droping 60-80lb's off your truck and geting almost another liter worth of displacement. i think they cost more than a 6.0 though.
if you are ever thinking about a blower and a larger engine than the 6.0 would be your best bet due to the lower compresion. just droping a 6.0 in there or puting a blower on your 4.8 wont kill your tranny, it may shorten the life but it wont kill it right away, combine a blower with the 6.0 and the tranny will only last a few days.
sounds like you need to slow down a little and do some searches on the subjest, there is alot of info on all the options, there is no wrong or right way to do it just lots of options, i went for all of them, more cubes, blower and nitrous
